Tunnels play a huge part on any canal boating holidays as almost every UK canal has a tunnel as part of its navigation. Opened in 1813, Husbands Bosworth canal tunnel is 1166 yards long and will take you over a quarter of an hour to navigate. The Leicester Line of The Grand Union Canal forms part of the Leicester Ring and there are some pleasant canal side towns and villages to visit making this an interesting and varied route. The Leicester Ring consists of 101 locks, 154 miles of canal and river cruising and five tunnels. Not only does it take you through the Leicestershire countryside but also the counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Derbyshire.
